Deer:

Hunting deer is one of life’s greatest thrills. Deer are highly intelligent animals, and hunting these beasts requires both skill and patience. At Southern Safari Outdoor Adventures, with our skill and expertise in hunting these amazing animals and our familiarity with the high country terrain, we can offer our clients an incredible deer hunting experience. 

Pigs: 

Hunting wild boar can offer an unbeatable adrenaline rush. As the most thrilling of all hunts, hunting wild boar offers challenges no other form of hunting can. Hunting wild boar requires the use of our highly skilled and trained dogs, used to scout out the game into close contact. At the end of a wild boar hunt, our clients are left with a real sense of thrill and achievement.

Rabbits:

Rabbits are a notorious pest in New Zealand, and night shooting these pests is a regular occurrence on the Maniototo. Rabbit shooting is a great was to fill in an evening and can offer our more novice clients the added experience with firearms. For those new to the use of firearms, rabbit shooting is a very safe context in which to learn the rules and safety guidelines of using firearms.

Goats:

Goats are a great hunting target as these animals are fit, fast, and thrive in the hill country. Hunting goats in the Maniototo is a great way to become more accustomed to shooting targets at long ranges, and introduces those novice hunters to valuable stalking skills for future hunting expeditions. 

Game Fowl:

In the Maniototo, Game fowl are another great hunting opportunity. The Maniototo is plentiful with wild Turkey, Pheasants and Quail. While abundant, these game fowl are some of the most difficult game to shoot due to their speed and awareness of approaching danger. However, with our breadth of skill and experience at Southern Safari Outdoor Adventure, we can offer our clients a successful and exhilarating experience hunting wild game fowl.

Southern Safari Outdoor Adventure can also offer great packages for those who enjoy Duck shooting. Duck is undoubtedly the most popular game fowl for hunting and in the Maniototo, the beginning of duck shooting season is an incredible rural experience. Southern Safari has great packages for opening weekend of duck shooting season, including a cooked breakfast and the opportunity of having the run of mill of your own pond that has been prepared exclusively for the season.

Chamois:

The Chamois are a goat-antelope species native to the mountains of Europe. These amazing animals were introduced to New Zealand with the advent of colonialism and the Chamois have a healthy population in the Maniototo. Not only are chamois a sought after trophy but the experience to observe these amazing creatures gliding through the mountain terrain, and navigating across cliff faces is a spectacle to behold. Hunting Chamois is a challenging but highly enjoyable experience that we at Southern Safari are proud to offer to our clients.

Tahr:

Tahr is a species of large Asian ungulates related to wild goat. Tahr is the toughest of all New Zealand game, both due to their highly evasive capabilities and the rough terrain in which they inhabit.
